A GP referral scheme at a gym in Sheffield has helped a retired teacher transform her life.
Pam Kesteven is back to full health after having a coronary stent fitted in hospital in 2012 to treat a painful case of angina.
After Pam completed a six-week NHS Cardiac Rehab Programme, she was referred by her physiotherapist to Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, operated by Sheffield International Venues, to take part in a GP referral scheme for people with heart problems.
She said: “The scheme at Graves has totally transformed my life. Before my operation I couldn’t walk more than a few yards, but now I’m fit and healthy and I regularly take five mile walks in the countryside.
“The staff at Graves are brilliant – they have boosted my confidence and helped me get back to my normal self. Initially, I was hesitant about exercising but the instructors have been really patient and taken excellent care of me.”
