WORK has started on a £1m gym expansion project at Sheffield’s award-winning English Institute of Sport.
Virtual technology has revealed for the first time what the new three-storey Fitness Unlimited complex will look like.
The video flythrough shows a dedicated weights gym – one of the biggest in the city – which will include bench lifting stations, pure strength machines and a variety of dumbbells.
Expected to open in October 2013, the gym will also feature new cardio facilities including bikes, rowers, treadmills and cross trainers, as well as Power Plates. The top floor will be home to 35 spin bikes with the virtual cycling product MyRide.
Director of operations for SIV Lorenzo Clark said: “Work is now well underway ahead of the expected autumn opening. The gym at EIS Sheffield has always been really popular and the new development is about building on this success. The community complex will cater for current and new members, as well as those using Don Valley Stadium, and will set the standard for gyms in Sheffield.
“The wellbeing of the surrounding community is key to SIV’s philosophy for the expansion and the development of an inspirational facility with tailored, value-for-money fitness packages to encourage healthy lifestyles.”
