UKACTIVE has got behind a new government campaign to invest in safer cycling infrastructure around the country.
A £77m grant – recently unveiled by Prime Minister David Cameron – will be shared by eight cities and has been introduced to raise levels of cycling around the UK.
ukactive CEO David Stalker said: “The number of cyclists in the UK has soared over the past year due to our success at Olympics, Paralympics and Tour de France.
These measures are a welcome step in creating an environment in which they can feel safer and be better protected.
“This investment will go a long way in establishing the infrastructure needed to get more people,
more active, more often.
“With latest figures showing that many people are still simply not active enough, this joined-up approach to physical activity by the government acknowledges that a wide coalition of partners is
required to improve the health and fitness of the nation.”
