AWARD-winning social enterprise Team Activ is to support Barnsley Council as it launches a new initiative to get more people walking in the town.
Funding for the two-year Walk Barnsley contract will target businesses, communities and households mainly along the A635 corridor between the town centre and Hickleton to get more people engaged in walking.
Team Activ is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to get people of all ages in Barnsley active.
The project has already got a number of local partnerships including InMotion, which promotes public transport in South Yorkshire; Barnsley College and Active Barnsley.
Individuals and organisations who want to get involved will be able to pick up or download a free Barnsley Town Centre Walking Guide with tips, helpful website addresses and other maps.
Founder of Team Activ Darren Padgett said: “The whole idea behind the project is not only getting people to walk, but making people want to walk – it’s getting people to take the first steps to change.
“There is so much to see in Barnsley that people are not aware of and we are hoping that the walking guides will also educate people while they keep fit.”
