THE popularity of running is on the rise, according to new research which reveals the UK’s running population has reached 10.5m.
A study by Sports Marketing Surveys Inc found that one in five adults run four or more times a year, while 25 per cent of under-18s also qualify as active runners under these criteria.
SMS INC managing director John Bushell said: “This overwhelmingly positive news for the running industry continues the trend in the UK, and internationally, towards sports directly related to health and fitness.
“The full report will offer interested parties new, otherwise unobtainable behavioural insight into UK runners and their relationship with the sport.”
