SEVEN out of 10 people are intimidated by the gym when they go for the first time, according to research by USN, with many particularly baffled by the slang and jargon they hear in clubs.
To combat this, the company has created The Guide to Gym Jargon, a handy pocket booklet which contains over 100 words and phrases with examples of how terms such as ‘beasting it up’ – anything which involves intense physical and mental effort – can be used.
Managing director of USN UK Jason Oakley said: “For many people, visiting the gym for the first time can be a daunting experience. We compiled a survey to identify how they felt. The results were compelling.
“Helping our customers on their fitness journey is our priority and we believe that the Guide to Gym Jargon will make those initial visits much less intimidating.”
