PLACES for People Leisure has been appointed by Sheffield City Council to manage and operate two new leisure facilities; the Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, which is currently under redevelopment, and a new site at Thorncliffe in the High Green area.
The two new centres represent the council’s biggest investment into the city’s leisure facilities for 20 years, with Places for People Leisure having taken over the operations of the existing Graves site on April 1. The operator will also manage the new facility, due to open on the same site in 2016.
The multi million pound state of the art facility will include a 1,000m2 elite performance gymnastics and trampolining facility, swimming pools, health and fitness suite and 18 tennis courts.
The facility will also act as the new headquarters for the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine and will include an NHS outpatient facility.
The site in Thorncliffe will include a 25m swimming pool and learner pool, large health and fitness suite and training studio spaces. It will also house NCSEM facilities including treatment and consultation rooms. Places for People Leisure will manage the operations of the centre once opened in early 2016.
