A SHEFFIELD leisure charity has become the first in the UK to be awarded a prestigious energy efficiency certificate.
The Sheffield City Trust Group, which operates 17 sports and entertainment facilities, including Sheffield City Hall and the English Institute of Sport Sheffield has been accredited with the ISO 50001 energy certificate.
It is the first sports and leisure trust in the country to achieve the energy standard and follows on from the trust’s achievement of the Carbon Trust Standard in 2014 – which was also a first by a sports and leisure trust.
Energy and environmental manager at SCT Sean Midgley said: “This latest news reaffirms our commitment to reducing energy usage across the SCT group.
“As a sports and leisure charity, and because of the nature of our business, we naturally use a lot of energy to maintain the high standards of our facilities.
“This means that we constantly have to work to bring down the amount of energy we use, and the new ISO 50001 energy management system will be even more effective in helping us continue to do that.
“We’ve already achieved a lot in terms of energy usage reduction, but we can, and will, be doing even more.”
